The art of learning is the art of assisting discovery .
Online Learning .
There is no end to education. It is not that we read a book, pass the tests successfully and finish with education. The whole life from the moment we are born, it is and will be a process of learning.
The world of education and learning is moving towards online training. The benefits are undeniable; reduced costs,great flexibility for the students and the ability to train thousands of people all over the world at the same time. In addition, we can monitor what we are doing at a given moment, we can reflect at other's opinions and it breaks with the passivity of classroom courses.
Since I introduced to the subject I know I am dealing with everything that has to do with technology, online sources, information gathering, learning how to make specific projects, presentations by using formats such as Power-Point and others. Actually, I never thought that on a day like this, I would learn the lessons online (supposed to learn in the class environment) with exactly the same way I'd follow to do my research works. Obviously,"trapped in the virtual classroom", everything is going to happen online for a while or more but new things have new challenges so we must deal with.To be frank, I had my own challenges at first, since I never tried blogger for educational purposes before. I had my doubts about how things works and are done with this, how to make connections, is this an easy way of doing things or a stressful one, how am I going to make my blogs interesting on the platform for students to read so on and so forth..
Attached to my thoughts I choose to highlight some disadvantages of learning online .
* Online learning is boring.
Although online learning is meant to provide a solution to the boredom of classroom-based learning,this is not always the case. Some courses consist of never ending texts followed by a long list of multiple questions that fail to engage students. This leads to a lack of engagement and motivation because more than learning, it feels like reading.
* The students encounter technical difficulties
While it may sound obvious, technical problems are one of the main stumbling blocks of online learning. Very often, there are compatibility issues ( with operating systems, browsers or smart phones) the courses never get off the ground or the student doesn't know how to continue. All this adds to their frustration since the learning experience is disrupted.
* The students don't know the course exists
This often happens. This happened to me as well. There may be various cases in which a student for a reason or another do not get the real time news about what is going on and as a result they do not know what a course is about and, hence, do not take it.
* The students need to talk to people
Online courses have lots of advantages but we also need to recognize their limitations. Some of them do not feel comfortable dealing with online learning and sometimes get frustrated due to the lack of human contact, the absence of a teacher and an inability to discuss it with their classmates. Sometimes, the online world, no matter how enriching it may be, can become too small and they may need a physical space where they can resolve their queries and practice with real tools.
Despite of some of the points I listed above, I like the idea of using multimedia for learning since i am a visual learner and this best fits on me. Perhaps it may seems intriguing such learning moments in the "digital fog", but finally I love those "aha" moments I typically whisper to myself when realize how things are done.We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change and challenge and the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn.
Thank you !
